On June 4th at approximately 2:45a.m. Hamden Police responded to the intersection of Pine Rock Avenue and Woodin Street on a welfare check. A concerned citizen advised police that the operator of a motor vehicle was parked at the intersection for nearly 15 minutes and that he appeared asleep.

Upon arrival Officers Devin Eaton and Peter Conti observed a “black handgun” in the operator’s lap. The operator of the vehicle, Michael Jones, was quickly secured and taken into custody. A search of Jones led to the discovery of a Glock .40 caliber handgun, 14 bags of crack cocaine, a bag of marijuana and $874.00. A subsequent search of Jones’ vehicle led to the seizure of drug paraphernalia.

Hamden Police arrested Michael Jones, 36, of 142 Ramsdell Street, New Haven. He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Weapons in a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Narcotics with the Intent to Sell, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Jones, who was detained on a $10,000.00 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on June 15th.
