On June 10th at approximately 10:00a.m. hundreds of motorcycles were departing from Louis Astorino Ice Arena, 595 Mix Avenue. The bikers were participating in the annual “Don’s Hat Rack Motorcycle Rally”, an event that raises money for the Smilow Cancer Hospital. The event is held in the memory of the late Donald Perotti.

As riders exited the south exit of the parking lot, participant Paul Panaroni, 59, of Hamden was ejected from his motorcycle. Medical personnel, which were stationed nearby, quickly rendered medical assistance. Panaroni was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital by American Medical Response. Later in the evening, Panaroni died from his injuries. An autopsy was conducted on June 11th.
