The Hamden Police Department will be partnering with the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Office as part of the “U Drive, U Text, U Pay” campaign.  From August 1st through August 15th, officers will be looking for distracted drivers.  This endeavor is a high visibility effort to enforce distracted driving laws. 

“Texting and driving is a public safety crisis.  Our mission is to save lives and protect the public.  According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 3,450 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in 2016.

The Hamden Police Department and the Connecticut Department of Transportation urge motorists to put the phone down prior to getting behind the wheel.  If it’s absolutely necessary to talk on the phone or text, please park your vehicle in a safe location.
