On August 14th Hamden Animal Control Officer Mitch Gibbs responded to the area of Dixwell Avenue and Arch Street on the report of a “feline stuck in a car tire.”
The operator of the motor vehicle advised AACO Gibbs that she heard the kitten “vocalizing” from within her vehicle. She immediately stopped her vehicle in a local parking lot.
A “Good Samaritan”, Michael Morgillo of Hamden, immediately came to the aid of the kitten. Morgillo was in the process of removing the “rear driver’s side tire” in an attempt to free the kitten, when AACO Gibbs arrived. The kitten was trapped between the tire and brake pad. Morgillo “carefully repositioned and steadied the tire”, which allowed AACO Gibbs to remove the 6 week-old kitten without further injury.
The kitten was promptly transported to the North Haven Animal Hospital for medical treatment. The Animal Control Division is happy to report that the kitten did not sustain any significant injury.
