On September 22, 2022, Hamden Police arrested Richard Atterberry, age 26 of Hamden, on an outstanding arrest warrant. The charges stem from an investigation into a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Dixwell Avenue in Hamden on June 09, 2022.

On June 9th at approximately 8:30 AM, Hamden Police responded to an evading motor vehicle accident in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Hillcrest Avenue. Police observed the evading vehicle and contact was attempted with the operator. The driver began operating the vehicle erratically “in circles” on Dixwell Avenue and then travelled southbound. A short time later, the same vehicle struck a pedestrian who was holding his young child as they crossed Dixwell Avenue near Newton Street.

Sergeant Brett Ferrara of the Hamden Police Department’s Traffic Division conducted an extensive investigation into the accident and identified Richard Atterberry as the operator of the evading vehicle.

Atterberry was charged with reckless endangerment 1st degree, reckless driving, evading responsibility, failure to obey traffic signal, failure to drive in proper lane, operating a vehicle without insurance, improper use of a license plate and failure to renew registration. He was arraigned at Meriden Superior Court on September 22, 2022 and held on a $50,000.00 bond.
