On Monday, November 14th, 2022 at 3:40am, Officer DeStefanis responded to the area of Dixwell Avenue and Palmer Avenue for a report of a suspicious vehicle. When Officers approached the vehicle, it fled the area, striking two marked Hamden Police Cruisers.
A short time later, a motor vehicle accident was reported on Hope Avenue, and the suspect vehicle was quickly located. The operator of the vehicle was last seen running toward Palmer Avenue. Sgt. May conducted a search of the area with his partner, K-9 Blaze, and located Richard Atterberry, Age 26, of Hamden. Atterberry was located on the front porch of a Palmer Avenue residence, which violated a current Protective Order issued against him. K-9 Blaze also located a handgun, ammunition and various narcotics within close proximity to Atterberry.
Atterberry was charged with Violation of Protective Order, Evading Responsibility, Illegal Possession of Weapon in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree, Interfering with an Officer, Criminal Possession of a Pistol, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Illegal Possession of a Large Capacity Magazine and Carrying a Pistol without Permit. Atterberry is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Monday November 15th, 2022, and was held on a $100,000 bond. No one was injured during this incident.
