On December 7th, 2022 at approximately 3:00pm, Hamden Police responded to the area of Whitney Avenue and Servoss Street on a reported carjacking of a 52 year-old female. The caller stated that she was sitting in her vehicle on Servoss Street when a young male opened the front passenger door. The male brandished a knife, and told her to get out of the car.

The investigation revealed that a male juvenile, 14 years old, out of Farmington, was a resident at the Children’s Center, 1400 Whitney Avenue. The juvenile walked off campus, acquired a knife from an unlocked vehicle, and approached the victim while she was sitting in her vehicle. The juvenile took the vehicle, and while traveling North on Dixwell Avenue, got into two separate accidents, in which he evaded. The juvenile continued to travel North, and got into a major motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Dixwell Avenue and Whitney Avenue. The juvenile, who was not injured, attempted to flee on foot, but was apprehended at the scene by Hamden Police. Several occupants of the damaged vehicles were transported to the hospital for moderate injuries.

The juvenile was charged with Robbery Involving an Occupied Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Operating Without a License, Evading Responsibility, Following to Close and Failure to Drive in Proper Lane. The juvenile is scheduled to appear in Superior Court for Juvenile Matters later this month.

Officers from the Patrol Division, Traffic Division and Major Crimes Detectives all assisted with the investigation.
