On December 22nd, 2022 at approximately 1:00am, Hamden Police responded to the area of 1100 Dixwell Avenue for a report of a gunshot victim. Upon arrival, officers located 25 year-old John Calatayud of Meriden, who was alert at the time. Calatayud was outside his vehicle, and was suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Calatayud was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment, and at this time it is uncertain where the shooting took place.

Detectives from the Hamden Police Department Major Crime Unit, and Crime Scene Unit are actively working on this investigation.
