On December 22nd, 2022 at approximately 9:45pm, Hamden Police responded to the area of Quentin Street for a report of an armed robbery. The complainant stated that he had been in contact with a male on Facebook Marketplace, and made arrangements to purchase a vehicle from him. When the complainant met at the specified location, he was approached by two males wearing ski masks and carrying handguns. The suspects took $600 in cash and a backpack containing personal documents. No one was injured during the incident.
Detectives from the Hamden Police Department Major Crimes Unit are actively investigating the complaint. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Hamden Police Department at 203-230-4000. Callers may remain anonymous.
The Hamden Police Department would like to remind the community of some very important crime prevention safety tips regarding these types of transactions:
Understand that some seller profiles or listings on social media may be fraudulent.
Meet in a public place, preferably well lit and with security cameras.
Have someone with you during any sale transactions.
Do not carry large amounts of cash or any other valuables on your person.
If you sense trouble, leave the area as quick as possible.
