On August 2nd, 2022 at 8:30pm, the Hamden Police Department responded to the area of 995 Dixwell Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. Members of the Hamden Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to investigate. The pedestrian involved, David Welch, 36, of Hamden, died from his injuries shortly thereafter.
Officer Christina Kelley conducted an extensive investigation which lead to an arrest warrant for the operator of the offending vehicle, Jovon Ladson, age 30, out of Hamden. Ladson voluntarily turned himself in to the Hamden Police Department on March 7th, 2023. Ladson was charged with Negligent Homicide with a Motor Vehicle, Speeding and Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle. Ladson was held on a $75,000 court set bond.
