Robbery – 2644 State Street

On 05/10/23, at 11:37 am, a complaint of an armed robbery with a firearm at Lincoln Liquors, 2644 State Street, was received by Hamden Police Central Communications. It was reported that a getaway vehicle was a dark Nissan Altima and all HPD Officers were alerted of the Robbery and that a male subject fled in a dark Altima and that the male was armed with a handgun.

Hamden Police Officers located the Nissan Altima traveling on Whitney Avenue near Glendower Street. Officers then observed the Nissan Altima enter the Wilbur Cross Parkway (Rt 15) traveling north-bound. Officers then lost sight of the Nissan Altima. Moments later, other Hamden Police Officers observed the Nissan Altima again in the area of State Street in North Haven. Officers attempted to stop the Altima. The Altima drove into a Hamden Police Cruiser and continued traveling onto State Street eluding Police.

The Nissan Altima entered the Route 40 connector traveling in the wrong direction, westbound in the eastbound lanes. The Altima then quickly crossed the center median and began traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes towards the I-91 exchange. Hamden Officers had discontinued their attempt to stop the Altima. The Altima was then found to have struck 2 vehicles on Rt. 40 and then left the roadway and came to rest into a grassy area off of the roadway. The subject in the Altima refused to exit the Altima while several Officers from Hamden PD, North Haven PD, and Troopers from the Ct. State Police negotiated with him to surrender. After several minutes, the subject removed himself from the Altima and surrendered. He was taken into custody by the Hamden Police Department.
