Shooting – Fairview Avenue - ***ARREST MADE***

On 05/27/23, at approximately 2:24 pm, the Hamden Police Department investigated a complaint of a gunshot victim who had been transported to St. Raphael’s Hospital for treatment. The victim, a 34-year-old New Haven resident, told Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit that he was walking towards the DJ Liquors parking lot at 16 Fairview Avenue when he was shot in the leg. The victim advised that a good Samaritan then gave him a ride to the hospital. The Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene and collected ballistic evidence.

Detective Shawn Nutcher was assigned this investigation and on 07/27/23, after an intensive 2-month investigation, obtained an Arrest Warrant for Dareen Dew, age 24 of Hamden, CT Dew was then taken into custody for his involvement in this shooting incident. Detectives were also able to seize a Glock Model 19 Pistol.

Assault 1st Degree 53-59(a)(5)
Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit 29-35
Dew was held on a $100,000 bond and scheduled to appear at GA-07 on August 10, 2023.

I would like to commend all the Officers who worked diligently on this investigation, specifically Sergeant Jomo Crawford, Detective Shawn Nutcher, and Detective Andrew Lipford. The investigation remains open and active.
