PIO #: 23-056 Tier I Accreditation

The Hamden Police Department is proud to announce that on November 9, 2023, the
department was awarded our Tier I Accreditation status through the Connecticut Police Officers
Standards and Training Council. Captain Robert D’Aniello was instrumental in achieving this
objective for the police department. The police accountability bill requires all law enforcement
agencies in Connecticut to be Tier I compliant by December 31, 2023, Tier II compliant by
December 2025 and Tier III complaint (fully accredited) by December 2026. Our Tier I
accreditation solidifies our commitment to continued transparency, accountability, enforcement,
and outreach. The accreditation process requires agencies to maintain a body of stringent
standards developed by public safety practitioners covering a wide range of modern public
safety initiatives. Hamden Police Chief E. P. Reynolds offered his remarks,
“I am humbled to accept this recognition on behalf of our department. We will continue
to strive for excellence, embracing new challenges and opportunities to better serve and
protect our community.

HPD’s receiving of POST Tier I Police Accreditation is a testament to the unwavering
commitment and dedication of our entire team, and it is with great humility that we
express our deepest appreciation.

I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to the members of our department for their
tireless efforts and unwavering dedication to serving and protecting our community.
Each and every officer has played an integral role in our journey towards excellence, and
this accreditation is a testament to their exceptional professionalism, integrity, and
commitment to upholding the highest standards of law enforcement.

I would also like to express my gratitude to HPD’s Captain Robert D’Aniello and the
accreditation committee as we acknowledge their hard work and accomplishments. This
accreditation serves as a validation of our continuous efforts to improve our practices,
enhance our training, and ensure that we are providing the highest level of service to our
community. It is a testament to our commitment to our RECIPE

Respect / Excellence / Compassion / Integrity / Professionalism / and Enthusiasm.

I am also deeply grateful to the members of our community for their unwavering support
and trust in our department. We understand that without their cooperation and
partnership, our efforts to maintain law and order would be significantly hindered. We
will continue to work tirelessly to earn and uphold their trust, and to serve them with the
utmost dedication and compassion.

Lastly, I would like to acknowledge Mayor Lauren Garrett and other town officials who
have played a significant role in shaping our department and our individual growth. Your
guidance, wisdom, and shared experiences have been invaluable in our journey towards
achieving this accreditation. We are grateful for the knowledge and expertise that you
have imparted upon us.

In conclusion, this departmental police accreditation is more than just an individual
achievement, but a reflection of the collective efforts of an exceptional team.

Thank you all once again for this tremendous honor.” ~ E. P. Reynolds, Chief of Police
