On December 14th, 2023 at approximately 10:45pm, Hamden Police Officers responded to the area of Helen Street and Murray Street on a report of shots fired. Responding officers located ballistic evidence in the street. Police also discovered that a Helen Street residence had been struck by gunfire. There were no injuries reported.
Detectives from the Hamden Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit have been actively working on this investigation since last evening. Through their investigative efforts a firearm believed to be involved in this incident was recovered early this morning and a suspect was identified.
On December 15, 2023, an arrest was made in regards to this shooting investigation. Arrested was Kimani Morris, age 18, of Bridgeport. Morris was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit and illegal possession of a high capacity magazine. Morris was held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on December 29th, 2023.
This appears to have been an isolated incident. The investigation is continuing.
