On November 25th at approximately 5:15a.m. Hamden Police responded to Hillcrest Avenue on the report of suspicious activity. Residents observed 2 individuals attempting to enter motor vehicles. 

Moments later, Officer Timothy Janus and Officer William Pesanelli detained the 2 individuals in the vicinity of a nearby service station. Further investigation revealed that they were responsible for forcibly entering vehicles on Hillcrest Avenue. 

Nasjear Johnson was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. The second individual, a 15 year-old New Haven resident, “violently pulled away” from officers and fled on foot. He was subsequently apprehended near the Farmington Canal Trail. Two officers suffered injuries during the incident. They were both treated at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Hamden Police arrested:

Nasjear Johnson, 18, of 73 Watson Street, New Haven. He was charged with Burglary in the 3rd Degree, Conspiracy to Commit Burglary in the 3rd Degree, Larceny in the 6th Degree and Conspiracy to Commit Larceny in the 6th Degree. Johnson, who was detained on a $2,500.00 bond, is scheduled to appear in court in Meriden on December 5th.

The 15 year-old juvenile was charged with Burglary in the 3rd Degree, Conspiracy to Commit Burglary in the 3rd Degree, Larceny in the 6th Degree, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny in the 6th Degree, 2 counts of Assault on a Police Officer and Interfering with a Police Officer. The juvenile is scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven on December 5th.
