On November 11, 2018 Hamden Police responded to a Pine Rock Avenue residence on the report of a domestic dispute, involving violence.
Investigation revealed that Patrick Whitfield was involved in a verbal dispute with the mother of his 1 month-old child. The dispute escalated into a physical confrontation, when Whitfield punched the victim in the head several times and then “choked” her, obstructing her airway. Whitfield “dragged” the victim, before taking her cell phone. He then threw an object at her, nearly striking the infant. He fled from the residence prior to the arrival of Hamden Police. The victim suffered neck and facial injuries.
Officer Derick Manning conducted the investigation, which led to the application of an arrest warrant for Whitfield. The court approved the arrest warrant application.
On December 3rd Hamden Police arrested Whitfield. He was earlier taken into custody by the East Haven Police Department. Whitfield, 24, of 937 Choate Avenue, Hamden was charged with Strangulation in the 2nd Degree, Assault in the 3rd Degree, Risk of Injury to a Minor, Violation of a Protective Order and Disorderly Conduct. Whitfield, who was detained on a $2,500.00 bond, was scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on December 4th.
In addition, Whitfield was arrested on the strength of 4 arrest warrants. He was additionally charged with 2 counts of Failure to Appear in the 1st Degree and 2 counts of Failure to Appear in the 2nd Degree. The bonds totaled $40,000.00.
