On January 14, 2019, shortly before 10:00a.m. Hamden Police responded to Hamden High School, 2040 Dixwell Avenue on a threatening complaint.
Investigation revealed that a threatening e-mail was sent to 3 Hamden High School staff members. School officials immediately implemented their Emergency Operation Plan and contacted the Hamden Police Department.
Approximately 1 hour later, a second threatening e-mail was received by the Hamden High School Administration. Detective Mark Sheppard immediately assumed the investigation, working collaboratively with the school administration. Detective Sheppard, along with Detective Brian Stewart and Officer Shawn Nutcher worked into the night and were able to identify Ajaunna Laudat, a “temporary contracted employee” at Hamden High School as a suspect.
Detective Joseph Liguori interviewed Laudat this morning at Hamden Police Headquarters. Laudat confessed to sending the threatening e-mails. She stated that she wanted the students to leave early.
Hamden Police arrested Ajaunna Laudat, 21, of 22 Pardee Place, New Haven. She was charged with Threatening in the 1st Degree, Falsely Reporting an Incident and Breach of Peace in the 2nd Degree. Laudat, who was detained on a $100,000.00 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on January 25, 2019.
This incident was resolved quickly through the efforts and collegial cooperation between Hamden Public Schools and the Hamden Police Department. Hamden Police would like to commend the efforts displayed by Hamden High School students and staff for their cooperation during this incident.
