On March 16, 2019, during the early morning hours, Hamden Police responded to Clarion Hotel, 2260 Whitney Avenue on the report of an armed robbery.
Investigation revealed that Johnny Doward entered the hotel and approached the clerk. He asked the clerk for change of a one dollar bill. When the clerk opened the cash register, Doward pointed a firearm at him, while ordering him to “Get on the ground.” An undisclosed amount of money was stolen.
Detective Joseph Liguori conducted the investigation, which led to the application of an arrest warrant for Doward. The court approved the arrest warrant application.
On April 20, 2019 Doward was arrested by the North Haven Police Department for unrelated charges. He was subsequently turned over to the custody of the Hamden Police Department.
Johnny Doward, 54, of 24 Wolcott Hill Road, Wethersfield was charged with Robbery in the 1st Degree and Larceny in the 6th Degree. Doward, who was detained on a court-ordered $250,000.00 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on May 7th.
