On April 15th the Hamden Animal Control Division responded to Sherman Avenue on the report of an injured rabbit. Central Communications reported that the rabbit “was possibly domesticated” and that it was suffering from a leg injury.
Moments later, Assistant Animal Control Officer Mitch Gibbs arrived. The rabbit appeared “friendly” and readily approached him. The rabbit was immediately transported to the North Haven Animal Hospital for medical treatment. It was determined that the rabbit was suffering from a serious infection in its hind limbs.
For the past 3 weeks the Hamden Animal Control Division has closely monitored and medicated the rabbit. The malnourished rabbit has gained weight. We are happy to report, that with the assistance of the Connecticut Humane Society, the rabbit has been transferred to “Hopalong Hollow”, a rabbit rescue, based in Norwalk.
