The Hamden Police Department recently participated in the second phase of the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s 2019 Distracted Driving High Visibility Enforcement Campaign.

Hamden Police conducted enforcement between August 1st and August 15th. Officers were stationed at locations, including Dixwell Avenue and Whitney Avenue.

The results of the enforcement campaign are listed below:

- 595 infractions (tickets) were issued for cell phone use/distracted driving
- 7 infractions (tickets) were issued for various motor vehicle violations
- 4 misdemeanor summonses, which require a court appearance, were issued for “Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under Suspension.”
- 5 criminal arrests were made on the strength of outstanding arrest warrants

Distracted Driving has caused numerous motor vehicle accidents in Hamden. Some of these accidents have resulted in fatalities and serious injuries. We at the Hamden Police Department urge motorists to park in a safe location prior to using their cell phone.
