On September 1, 2019, the Hamden Police Department and the Connecticut State Police conducted a collaborative “Sobriety Checkpoint” in the area of Whitney Avenue and the Route 40 Connector. The purpose of this endeavor was to educate the motoring public on the dangers of drunk driving.

Officers interacted with several hundred motorists throughout the evening and early morning hours. In addition, officers distributed literature pertaining to driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

The “Sobriety Checkpoint” resulted in the following:

- Driving Under the Influence – 2 custodial arrests
- Criminal Arrests – 1 (Possession of Marijuana)
- Infractions/Misdemeanor Summonses – 56

The Hamden Police Department urges all motorists to drive sober or to designate a driver, while celebrating the Labor Day holiday.
