On October 7, 2019 at approximately 4:00p.m. Hamden Police and the Hamden Animal Control Division responded to a Vantage Road residence on the report of animal nuisance.
The daughter of the 84 year-old resident contacted police and reported that her mother had been bitten by a raccoon. According to the victim, the raccoon “attacked” her and bit her on the hand, while gardening. Her daughter intervened and prevented further injuries. The victim was promptly transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital for medical treatment.
Hamden Police and Animal Control Officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the raccoon.
The Hamden Police Department and Animal Control Division would like to provide the following tips with regards to raccoons:
- Do not feed raccoons
- Keep garbage out of the reach of raccoons
- Do not leave pet food outside
- Keep compost secure
