On October 12, 2019 at approximately 2:45a.m. Hamden Police responded to the area of Dixwell Avenue and Weybosset Street on the report of “shots fired.” Officers were advised that an anonymous complainant heard “3 to 4 shots.”
Moments later, Officer Keron Bryce observed a motor vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Dixwell Avenue. He conducted a motor vehicle stop on the vehicle in the vicinity of Dixwell Avenue and Helen Street.
Officer Bryce observed a firearm, underneath the leg of the passenger Carlos Barnes. As Barnes was being removed from the vehicle, he “pulled his hands away” from an officer and fled on foot. Officer Bryce pursued Barnes on foot and apprehended him. The operator of the vehicle, Antoine Ward was also arrested.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 2 loaded firearms and a knife. Several shell casings were located on the Route 15 (Exit 60) ramp.
Hamden Police arrested:
Carlos Barnes, 28, of 24 Wolcott Hill Road, Wethersfield. He was charged with Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm (2 counts), Weapons in a Motor Vehicle (2 counts), Criminal Possession of a Firearm (2 counts), Carrying a Pistol without a Permit (2 counts), Altering Firearm Serial Number and Interfering with a Police Officer. Barnes, who was detained on a $100,000.00 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on October 25th.
Antoine Ward, 29, of 55 Elliot Street, New Haven. He was charged with Weapons in a Motor Vehicle. Ward, who was detained on a $25,000.00 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on October 25th.
