On July 1, 2018 at approximately 2:00a.m., Melissa Reddick, 51, of Hamden was crossing Dixwell Avenue, in the vicinity of Morse Street. Reddick was struck by the operator of a Sports Utility Vehicle, which fled northbound on Dixwell Avenue. Reddick was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Officer Brett Ferrara of the Hamden Police Department Traffic Division, along with Detective Joseph Liguori and Officer Shawn Nutcher “combed through hours of video”, which led to the discovery of the vehicle. The vehicle was parked in a residential garage in New Haven. Further investigation revealed that William Moultrie was the operator of the vehicle.
Officer Ferrara submitted an arrest warrant application to the court for Moultrie. The court approved the arrest warrant application.
Moultrie, 53, formerly of New Haven, was apprehended at his current address in Georgetown, South Carolina. He was extradited to Connecticut and formerly arrested by Hamden Police on October 18th. He was charged with Evading Responsibility/Death, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Criminal Mischief in the 2nd Degree, Falsely Reporting an Incident and Interfering with a Police Officer. Moultrie, who was detained on a court-ordered $50,000.00 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on November 1st.
