On May 26, 2019 Hamden Police responded to the main entrance/exit of the Miller Memorial Library, 2901 Dixwell Avenue on the report of a motor vehicle accident, involving a mobility scooter.
Investigation revealed that Robert Sheard, 74, of Hamden was crossing Dixwell Avenue in his mobility scooter, in front of the library. Sheard, who was not in a crosswalk, was struck by a motor vehicle that was traveling westbound on Dixwell Avenue. The motor vehicle was operated by Rosemary Kaliscak, 69, of Middletown.
Sheard was ejected off of his mobility scooter. Sheard was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Officer Nicholas Lovett of the Hamden Police Department Traffic Division conducted the investigation, which led to the application of an arrest warrant for Kaliscak. The court approved the arrest warrant application.
On November 13, 2019 Hamden Police arrested Kaliscak on the strength of the warrant. She was charged with Negligent Homicide with a Motor Vehicle and Failure to Exercise Reasonable Care Near a Vulnerable User on a Public Way. Kaliscak, who was detained on $50,000.00 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on November 26th.
