On December 7, 2019 at approximately 5:15p.m. Hamden Police responded to Saint Mary Street on the report of shots fired. Hamden Police had received an alert from the New Haven Police Department’s ShotSpotter that gun shots were fired in the area.

Investigation revealed that a group of three individuals hid inside of a detached garage located on Saint Mary Street. A member of the group fired multiple shots at two people that were walking by. No one was struck by the gunfire. Several bullets struck a Saint Mary Street residence. One of the rounds penetrated the residence through a window. The bullet traveled across a bedroom and embedded inside of a wall. There were 3 people inside of the residence at the time of the shooting.

The two individuals that had been shot at fled from the area on foot towards Alling Street. They observed a motor vehicle that was “idling” in the parking lot of a local business located on Dixwell Avenue. They entered the vehicle in an attempt to steal it. An employee of the business attempted to intervene. One of the individuals  then pointed a firearm at him. They subsequently stole the vehicle. They were last observed traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Morse Street.

Shortly thereafter, members of the New Haven Police Department located the occupied stolen vehicle on John Williamson Drive. The two occupants were apprehended after a foot pursuit.

Hamden Police arrested Jayvon Prevost, 19, of 45 Wayfarer Street, New Haven. He  was  charged  with  Larceny  in  the  2nd   Degree.  Prevost,  who  was  detained  on      a
$20,000.00 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on December 20th.

Hamden Police also arrested a 16-year-old New Haven resident. He was charged with Larceny in the 2nd Degree. He is scheduled to appear at Juvenile Court in New Haven.

The Hamden Police Department Major Crimes Division is continuing the investigation.
