On January 24, 2020 at approximately 6:20a.m. Officer Eric Hallstrom of the Hamden Police Department observed a motor vehicle traveling southbound on Whitney Avenue with defective equipment. He attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop, however, the operator of the vehicle failed to comply. Moments later, the vehicle “crashed” on Bedford Street. One of the two occupants of the vehicle fled on foot. Police were not in pursuit at the time of the crash.
Shortly thereafter Hamden Police were notified of a robbery that had occurred in the parking lot of 2335 Dixwell Avenue. The 59-year-old victim was approached by a male at knifepoint. The male demanded that she surrender her purse. The male subsequently “grabbed” her purse from a shopping cart. The male entered a vehicle that was driven by another person. The vehicle was last observed fleeing towards Skiff Street.
Investigation revealed that the occupants of the vehicle that had crashed on Bedford Street were responsible for the knifepoint robbery. They were promptly arrested and transported to police headquarters. It was later determined that the vehicle that they were traveling in was reported stolen in Madison.
Hamden Police arrested:
Kenzell Goodman, 25, of 15 Pond Lilly Street, New Haven. He was charged with Robbery in the 1st Degree, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery in the 1st Degree, Larceny in the 2nd Degree and Interfering with a Police Officer. Goodman, who was detained on a $25,000.00 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on February 6, 2020.
Rhyiashia Beall, 19, of 356 Munson Street, New Haven. She was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Robbery in the 1st Degree and Larceny in the 2nd Degree. Beall, who was detained on a $25,000.00 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on February 6, 2020.
