On February 12, 2020 at approximately 5:00a.m. Hamden Police responded to the area of Dixwell Avenue and Woodin Street on the report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a motor vehicle that was operated by Pinky McBurrows was traveling northbound on Dixwell Avenue. The vehicle crossed over the southbound lanes of Dixwell Avenue and struck a bus stop enclosure that was occupied by 2 people. The 2 males that were inside of the bus stop enclosure suffered serious injuries, one being classified as life-threatening. Hamden Fire Rescue arrived and rendered medical assistance. The victims, Hamden residents ages 57 and 59, were transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Immediately after the crash, McBurrows fled on foot from her vehicle. She was quickly apprehended by Officer Elvin Rivera. She has been transported to police headquarters.
McBurrows, 31, of Ansonia has been charged with Reckless Driving, Evading Responsibility, Operating Without a License and Failure to Drive in Proper Lane. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
Dixwell Avenue is closed southbound between Putnam Avenue and Woodin Street.
