On February 8, 2020 Hamden Police responded to the area of Dix Street and North Street on the report of suspicious activity. A concerned resident advised police that a male was opening packages and placing the contents inside of his backpack.
Moments later, officers located Yanik Opoku walking in the area. Inside of his backpack were 2 new computers, valued at $4,800.00.
Investigation revealed that the victim, a member of the military, had a military credit card fraudulently opened in his name. The subsequent fraudulent purchases were made with the credit card on a military shopping website.
Hamden Police arrested Yanik Opoku, 27, of 113 Shell Street, Bridgeport. He was charged with Larceny in the 3rd Degree. Opoku, who was detained on a $5,000.00 bond, is scheduled to appear at Meriden Superior Court on February 21, 2020.
