On December 28th at approximately 9:30a.m. Hamden Police responded to a Smith Drive residence on an emergency call.
Investigation revealed that a 31 year-old female, who is a “live-in caregiver” at the Smith Drive address, was involved in a verbal dispute with her boyfriend, Victor Pergee. The dispute escalated into a physical altercation. Pergee struck the victim, who is pregnant, multiple times, knocking her to the ground. He then “ripped her hair out.” Officers further learned that Pergee “assaulted her and choked her on and off for approximately an hour.” The victim suffered injuries to her stomach and arms. She was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital for medical treatment.
Officers promptly took Pergee into custody. Pergee, 34, was charged with Assault in the 1st Degree on a Pregnant Woman, Strangulation in the 2nd Degree, Disorderly Conduct and Interfering with a Police Officer. Pergee, who was detained on a $100,000.00 bond, is scheduled to appear in court in Meriden today.
Officer Nicholas D’Angelo conducted the investigation.
