On May 2, 2020 at approximately 4:30p.m. Hamden Police responded to the area of Dixwell Avenue and Goodrich Street on the report of a “pedestrian struck”.
Investigation revealed that a 25-year-old New Haven resident was riding his bicycle, southbound, on the Farmington Canal Trail. He was struck by a motor vehicle, that was traveling westbound on Goodrich Street. The vehicle fled from the scene.
The victim sustained injuries to his back and ribs. Hamden Fire Rescue responded and rendered medical assistance. He was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital for medical treatment.
Shortly thereafter, Officer Kyle Sampognaro located the operator of the vehicle, which was parked at a Hamden residence. Daphney Townsend, the operator of the vehicle, was arrested and charged with Evading Responsibility and Failure to Grant Right of Way. Townsend, 33, of 117 Dewitt Street, New Haven is scheduled to appear in court at a later date and time.
