On May 6, 2020 at approximately 9:30a.m. Officer Betty Montijo observed a motor vehicle traveling recklessly, northbound on Whitney Avenue. The vehicle nearly struck her police cruiser. She attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop. The vehicle continued at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle, which was reported stolen out of Cromwell, turned onto Fern Street. Officer Montijo observed the vehicle “slowly rolling” in the roadway. The stolen vehicle struck a parked vehicle. The 2 female juvenile occupants, abandoned the vehicle and subsequently fled on foot. Shortly thereafter, they were apprehended by Officer Derick Manning and Officer Jeremy Brewer.
The 2 (14) year-old juveniles reside in New Haven. The operator of the stolen vehicle was charged with Reckless Driving, Engaging an Officer in Pursuit, Evading Responsibility and Larceny in the 2nd Degree. The passenger was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Larceny in the 2nd Degree and Interfering with a Police Officer. They are scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven at a later date.
