The Hamden Police Department has responded to a vast increase in “fireworks complaints” over the past 2 months. Since April 29th, officers have responded to 63 fireworks related complaints.
The use of fireworks in Connecticut is illegal. Violation of Connecticut General Statute 29-357 is a class C misdemeanor. Hamden Police will be increasing patrols, with an emphasis on fireworks, in the coming days. Those cited, will be scheduled for a mandatory court date.
The excessive use of fireworks in our neighborhoods have a negative impact. The noise associated with fireworks can have a major effect on young children, the elderly, those affected with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and our pets. In addition, errant fireworks are a fire hazard, especially with our current dry conditions.
