On September 18, 2020 members of the Hamden Police Department Street Interdiction Team and Emergency Services Unit executed a search warrant at 77 Second Street. The search warrant was the result of a lengthy investigation regarding illegal drug sales.
Upon searching the residence, officers located and seized the following items:
- 42 MDMA (Ecstasy) pills
- PCP – 5.7 grams
- Heroin – 7.1 grams
- Marijuana – 19.2 grams
- 30 Methadone pills
- 5 Xanax pills
- 5 .22 caliber bullets
Hamden Police arrested Paul Kates Jr., 24, of 77 Second Street, Hamden. He was charged with 2 counts of Possession of Narcotics, Possession of Narcotics with the Intent to Sell, Possession of a Controlled Substance, 2 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Sell, Possession of Marijuana, 2 counts of Possession of a Hallucinogenic Substance, 2 counts of Possession of a Hallucinogenic Substance with the Intent to Sell, Misrepresentation of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Ammunition. Kates Jr, who was detained on a $25,000.00 bond, is scheduled to appear at Meriden Superior Court on October 1st.
In addition, Kates Jr. was arrested on the strength of an outstanding arrest warrant originating out of New Haven. He was additionally charged with Breach of Peace in the 2nd Degree and Criminal Trespass.
