On October 15, 2020 at approximately 9:30p.m. Officer Justin Martin of the Hamden Police Department heard multiple gunshots in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Morse Street. Moments later, he observed two vehicles traveling northbound on Dixwell Avenue “at an extremely high rate of speed.” Officer Martin immediately ascertained that the two vehicles were involved in the shooting incident.
Officer Martin pursued one of the vehicles, throughout several streets in Hamden and New Haven. The vehicle became disabled when it struck “bushes and a raised mulch bed” on Cold Spring Street in New Haven. Four males emerged from the vehicle, which was stolen in Shelton, and fled on foot.
Shortly thereafter, Officer Martin, along with Sergeant Michael Nawrocki and Detective Mark Sheppard apprehended Davonte Jones. New Haven Police personnel, with the assistance of Hamden Police located Isaiah Whitfield hiding behind a dumpster on Autumn Street. Additionally, New Haven and Hamden Police personnel arrested Frankie Tyson in the vicinity of Whitney Avenue and Huntington Street.
Officers recovered a firearm and ammunition from inside of the stolen vehicle. In addition, officers located and seized 44 grams of marijuana.
Hamden Police arrested:
Isaiah Whitfield, 19, of 99 Bassett Street, 2nd floor, New Haven.
Frankie Tyson, 18, of 2390 State Street, Hamden.
Davante Jones, 19, of 204 Starr Street, New Haven.
They were all charged with Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, Illegal Possession of a Weapon in a Motor Vehicle, Carrying a Pistol without a Permit, Reckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree, Larceny in the 1st Degree, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Interfering with a Police Officer and multiple Conspiracy charges. They were all detained on a $10,000.00 bond. They are scheduled to appear at Meriden Superior Court on December 11th.
