On January 12th at approximately 10:00p.m. Hamden Police responded to a Walden Street address on the report of a burglary in progress.

Investigation revealed that a resident of the 3 story dwelling heard noises in the common hallway. She observed an individual, who was later identified as Ernest Snow, taking clothing items that she had left outside of her front door.

Shortly thereafter, at approximately 10:30p.m. Hamden Police were dispatched to a Whitney Avenue address on the report of a burglary in progress.

Investigation revealed that Snow had forced entry into the residence through a rear door. Once inside, he proceeded to the 3rd floor and attempted to force entry into the apartment by pushing the door open. The resident, who was on the telephone with police, “used her arms and legs to push back against Snow’s attempt to force his way through the door.” Snow was able to force the door open several inches. He then grabbed the 52 year-old resident’s hand. She suffered a wrist and back injury. The resident believes that when Snow heard her on the telephone with police, he fled.

Moments later, Sergeant Michael Doherty located Snow in the vicinity of Dixwell Avenue and Connolly Parkway. A subsequent search of Snow led to the discovery of burglar tools. He was arrested and transported to police headquarters.

Hamden Police arrested Ernest Snow, 56, of 543 East Street, New Haven. He was charged with 2 counts of Burglary in the 1st Degree, 2 counts of Possession of Burglar Tools, Assault in the 3rd Degree and Larceny in the 6th Degree. Snow is scheduled to appear in court in Meriden on January 25th.

Officers Matthew Barbuto and Andrew Pfeiffer conducted the investigations.
