On February 5th at approximately 7:45p.m. Hamden Police responded to The Children’s Center, 1400 Whitney Avenue on the report of “6 runaways.”

Moments later, officers were informed that several juveniles were observed “breaking into unlocked motor vehicles” in the area of Carmalt Street. Officer Matthew Barbuto arrested a 16 year-old Children’s Center resident, who was running in several backyards. He was transported to police headquarters.

Upon arrival at police headquarters, the juvenile continuously threatened numerous officers and made several attempts at damaging a police camera. An officer, who attempted to prevent the criminal mischief, sustained a broken finger.

The juvenile was charged with Interfering with a Police Officer, Threatening in the 2nd Degree and Escape from Custody. He is scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in Waterford on February 15th.
