On February 25, 2021 at 6:03p.m. Hamden Police responded to the intersection of Dixwell Avenue and Saint James Street on the report of a motor vehicle accident, involving a pedestrian.
Investigation revealed that 65 year-old Hamden resident Calvin Washington was crossing Dixwell Avenue from the east side of the roadway. He was struck by a motor vehicle that was traveling northbound on Dixwell Avenue. The vehicle was operated by a 38 year-old Middletown resident.
Hamden Fire Rescue arrived and rendered medical attention. Washington was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Shortly thereafter, he was pronounced dead.
Dixwell Avenue was closed for nearly 7 hours for investigatory purposes.
