On May 17, 2021, Hamden Police responded to the Hamden Plaza, 2100 Dixwell Avenue on the report of a street robbery.
Investigation revealed that an 85-year-old female was placing groceries into her motor vehicle. She was approached from behind by a 16-year-old juvenile, who was wearing a face mask. The juvenile grabbed the shoulder strap of the victim’s pocketbook. She was then “violently pulled to the ground.” The impact caused physical trauma to the victim, including injuries to her hand, knees and shoulder.
She was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital where it was determined that she had sustained a fractured shoulder. The juvenile stole $70.00, credit cards and the victim’s house keys. He entered a stolen vehicle, which fled from the area at a high rate of speed.
Detective Joseph Liguori conducted an extensive investigation, which led to the application of an arrest warrant for the juvenile. The court approved the arrest warrant application.
On June 16, 2021, the 16-year-old, New Haven resident, was brought to police headquarters by a family member. He was arrested and charged with Robbery in the 1st Degree, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery in the 1st Degree, Larceny in the 2nd Degree, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny in the 2nd Degree and Assault on an Elderly Person. He was transported to the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center.
The Meriden Police Department and New Haven Police Department assisted in the investigation.
