On June 24, 2021, Hamden Police arrested Michael Cancel at Meriden Superior Court. Cancel was arrested for two commercial burglaries that he had committed earlier in the year.
On January 15, 2021, Cancel forcibly entered Exxon Express Food Mart, 2263 Whitney Avenue, through the roof. He stole several items, including cigarettes, lottery tickets and money.
On March 10, 2021, Cancel forcibly entered Discount Wine and Spirits, 1980 Whitney Avenue. Investigation revealed that he threw a large rock through the front glass door. Once inside, Cancel stole numerous items, including 132 packs of cigarettes, 12 bottles of Cognac and money.
Cancel, 30, was charged with 2 counts of Burglary in the 3rd Degree, 2 counts of Larceny in the 3rd Degree and 2 counts of Criminal Mischief. He was detained on court-ordered bonds, totaling $35,000.00.
