On June 9, 2021, at approximately 11:00p.m. Hamden Police responded to the area of Arch Street and Dix Street on the report of a male shooting at a female. Officers learned that the gunshot victim, a 21 year-old Naugatuck resident, was confronted by an acquaintance of hers, De-Saiti Ware. They were engaged in a verbal altercation on Dix Street. As she attempted to run away from him, Ware shot her in the chest. She was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital by a friend.
Detective Jomo Crawford and Detective Mark Sheppard of the Major Crimes Unit conducted the investigation into the shooting and applied for an arrest warrant for De-Saiti Ware.
On 07/26/21, Hamden Police arrested De-Saiti Ware, 19, of 78 Orchard Street, New Haven. He was charged with Assault 1st Degree, Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, Breach of Peace 2nd Degree, and Violation of a Pistol Permit. Ware was held on a $350,000.00 court set bond and scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on July 27, 2021.
