On August 5, 2021, at approximately 1:30p.m. Hamden Police responded to Wendy’s, 2195 Dixwell Avenue on the report of “an assault with injuries.”
Moments later, officers observed a 57 year-old Hamden resident, lying on the ground in the parking lot. The victim, who was “semi-conscious”, had visible injuries on his face and head. Hamden Fire Rescue arrived and rendered medical assistance. The victim was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with serious injuries.
Investigation revealed that the victim drove alongside of a vehicle that was in the drive-thru lane. It appears that the victim “stated something” to the occupants in the vehicle. The passenger, Kenneth Bell, subsequently exited the vehicle and threw “a drink” at the victim’s vehicle. The victim exited his vehicle, at which time Bell “punched” him in the face, rendering the victim unconscious. Bell and the operator of the vehicle then left the area.
Shortly thereafter, Officer Derick Manning and Officer Ronald Glifort located Bell on Valley Street in New Haven. He was arrested and transported to police headquarters. Bell told officers that the victim made a racial slur.
Hamden Police arrested Kenneth Bell, 39, of 450 Valley Street, New Haven. He was charged with Assault in the 2nd Degree and Breach of Peace in the 2nd Degree. Bell, who was detained on a $5,000.00 bond, is scheduled to appear at Meriden Superior Court on October 5th.
