On August 30, 2021, at approximately 10:00 AM, Hamden Police responded to the area of Whitney Avenue and Huntington Circle on the report of a motor vehicle accident involving a CT Transit bus.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle turned in front of the bus on Whitney Avenue from Huntington Circle, after failing to stop at a stop sign. The vehicle sustained extensive damage in the collision. The occupants of the vehicle were reportedly stealing mail from mailboxes prior to the collision.
The driver of the suspect vehicle was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with life threatening injuries. There were also two passengers in the vehicle that fled the scene. They were both apprehended a short time later with the assistance of the Cheshire Police Department. One of the passengers from the suspect vehicle was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with minor injuries.
The bus driver was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. There were two passengers on the bus with no reported injuries.
One of the passengers of the suspect vehicle, Ali Mohamad Sanoh, a 21 year old from the Bronx, New York was arrested and charged with Interfering with Police and Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 6th Degree. He was held on a $25,000 bond and given a 10/25/21 court date at Meriden Superior Court.
The identity of the driver and second passenger of the suspect vehicle are still under investigation. Additional arrests are expected. Whitney Avenue was closed in both directions for several hours while police investigated the accident. The road is expected to be open before rush hour this evening.
Officer Brett Ferrara of the Hamden Police Department is continuing the investigation. The United States Postal Inspection Service is assisting in the investigation.
