On May 13, 2021, at approximately 12:15 AM, Hamden Police responded to the 1500 block of Dixwell Avenue on the report of shots fired. Officers located a 20-year-old New Haven resident in the vicinity of Dixwell Avenue and Pershing Street. She was suffering from a gunshot wound to her chest. A second victim, a 22-year-old Hamden resident, was shot multiple times and suffered injuries to his buttocks, hand and pelvis. Both gunshot victims were transported to the hospital and treated for serious physical injuries.


Detective Jomo Crawford of the Hamden Police Department Major Crimes Unit conducted an extensive investigation into the shooting. The New Haven Shooting Task Force assisted in the investigation.


On October 12, 2021, Hamden Police arrested Michael Wooten, 23, of Hamden. He was charged with Criminal Attempt to Commit Assault 1st Degree, Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree and Illegal Discharge of a Firearm. Wooten was held on a $350,000.00 court set bond and scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on November 17, 2021.
