On 01/31/22 at approximately 10:30 PM, Hamden Police responded to the parking lot of Stop & Shop, 2335 Dixwell Avenue, on the report of an attempted armed robbery. The victim was in his parked vehicle, when a suspect opened the unlocked car door and brandished a firearm. The suspect demanded his belongings and the victim yelled for help. The suspect was reportedly wearing black clothing, a black mask and fled in a black SUV. No injuries were reported and nothing was taken from the victim.
On 02/01/22 at approximately 8:30 PM, officers responded to the same parking lot on the report of a theft of a pocketbook. The victim was loading groceries into her parked car. A suspect quickly approached and grabbed her purse from the shopping carriage. The victim was not injured. The suspect fled in a black SUV.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle involved in both incidents is possibly a stolen vehicle. Hamden Police are working in conjunction with area police departments on both investigations.
