On 03/18/22 at approximately 3:00 PM, Hamden Police officers responded to the Hamden Plaza, 2100 Dixwell Avenue, on a reported carjacking of a 74 year-old female. The victim was placing her purchases into the car, when she was violently thrown to the ground from behind. The victim was transported to the hospital with a serious hip injury.
The Hamden Police Department Major Crimes Unit conducted an extensive investigation into the robbery. The investigation revealed that three suspects fled in the victim’s vehicle from the shopping center. The suspects arrived in another stolen vehicle, which was recovered by police at the crime scene. Police in New Haven later recovered the victim’s vehicle.
A 16-year-old juvenile from New Haven was identified as the suspect that threw the victim to the ground and stole her vehicle. Police later secured an arrest warrant for his arrest. The Court ordered the juvenile be issued a juvenile summons with a promise to appear in New Haven Superior Court for Juvenile Matters. On 05/01/22, the juvenile was charged with Robbery 1st Degree and Larceny 2nd Degree and assigned a 05/12/22 court date.
