On 05/26/21 at approximately 6:00pm, Hamden Police Officers responded to the area of Oberlin Road on a report of shots fired. Responding officers located a crime scene and ballistic evidence in the roadway. It was later determined that a 22-year-old gunshot victim was transported to the hospital by private vehicle. The victim was treated for serious injuries as a result of the shooting on Oberlin Road.
Detective Andrew Lipford of the Major Crimes Unit conducted an extensive investigation into the shooting. The investigation determined that the occupant of a vehicle travelling on Oberlin Road shot at the victim, who was in a parked vehicle on Oberlin Road. The shooting appeared targeted.
On 05/17/22, Hamden Police served an arrest warrant charging a 15-year-old Meriden resident in connection to the shooting. He was charged with Assault 1st Degree, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, and Carrying a Pistol without a Permit. The juvenile is being held at juvenile detention and is scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court for Juvenile Matters on 05/31/22.
The same juvenile was previously arrested in connection with another shooting in Hamden that occurred on 05/27/21. He was also arrested on 06/03/21 with a loaded handgun that had an obliterated serial number. The handgun was forensically analyzed and later linked to the shooting on Oberlin Road.
