The Hamden Police Department will be partnering with the Connecticut Department of Transportation as part of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

Between April 4th and April 30th officers will be looking for distracted drivers, as part of the “U Drive. U Text. U Pay” campaign. This endeavor is a high visibility effort to enforce distracted driving laws.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 3,450 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in 2016.

The Hamden Police Department and the Connecticut Department of Transportation urge motorists to put the phone down prior to getting behind the wheel. If it’s absolutely necessary to talk on the phone or text, please park your vehicle in a safe location.
