On March 13th at approximately 12:05a.m. Hamden Police responded to Charles and James Place, 1350 Dixwell Avenue on the report of shots fired.

Moments later, officers located a 27 year-old gunshot victim, walking in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Lexington Street. The victim was shot 3 times, twice in the shoulder and once in the leg. Hamden Fire Rescue rendered medical assistance. The victim was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Detective Joseph Liguori conducted an extensive investigation, which led to the application of an arrest warrant for Darrell Mayes. The court approved the arrest warrant application.

On April 24th Hamden Police arrested Mayes at his West Haven residence. He was transported to Hamden Police Headquarters.

Hamden Police arrested Darrell Mayes, 29, of 22 Coleman Street, Apartment K, West Haven. He was charged with Assault in the 1st Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm and Carrying a Pistol without a Permit. Mayes, a convicted felon, was detained on a $250,000.00 court-ordered bond. He is scheduled to appear in court in Meriden on April 25th.
