Criminal Background Checks     Fingerprinting

The Hamden Police Records Division is responsible for the storage, maintenance, and release of police reports and arrest records, in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”) and the Municipal Records Retention/Disposition Schedule of the State of Connecticut. This unit also ensures that crime data is compiled, validated and disseminated to the Public Safety Crime Analysis Unit of the State of Connecticut.

Picking Up a Report?

All accident reports may be purchased online at www.buycrash.com.  Please note you must enter the full 10 digit report number with no dashes.  For example 2000012345 not 20-12345. 

1. Allow 10 business days for reports to be completed
2. Call 203-230-4090 to confirm report is ready
3. Report fees are .50 cents per page
4. Certified copy fee - $1.00 for the first page and .50 each page thereafter
5. Please note that all reports are not releasable to the public. The Records Division decides which reports are releasable according to Chapter 14 of the Connecticut General Statutes (C.G. S. 1-200 through 1-259)
6. Motor vehicle accident reports may also be purchased and downloaded online by going to www.buycrash.com

Mail in Requests

For your convenience, you may mail in requests to: Hamden Police Department Records Division, 2900 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden, CT 06518. You must provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope to mail your report back and a copy of your photo ID. Please call ahead (203-230-4090) to find out if your report is ready and how much it will be.  Click here to download a Records Request Form.

If Paying With a Personal Check

Must bring/mail in a copy of driver’s license
Must have phone number and driver’s license number written on check
Make check payable to Treasurer, Town of Hamden

To Conduct a Criminal Background Check

Bring your photo ID, name and date of birth of person of interest
Cost: $10.00
Please note that background checks include Hamden arrests only, they do not include any other town. They do not include any motor vehicle arrests. (Speeding, DUI, etc.)

Fingerprinting

Mondays from 2pm to 6pm.

Wednesdays from 10am to 2pm. 

Walk-ins only; no appointments.

Fingerprinting for Pistol Permits:  You must be fingerprinted by the Hamden Police Department. The State no longer accepts money orders or bank checks to accompany fingerprints (this used to be a $88.25 charge or $75.00+$13.25) you must pre-enroll to be fingerprinted and pay online via credit card only.  The website to enroll is https://ct.flexcheck.us.idemia.io/cchrspreenroll/. The service code for Hamden PD pistol permit fingerprints 7273-eda2. 

Once you are pre-enrolled to be fingerprinted you must bring a printed copy of the barcode/ tracking number with you.  If the barcode/tracking number does not accompany the fingerprints we will not be able to accept the pistol permit application.  Please note that once you complete the pre-enrollment process and pay online there are no refunds. There is also a Hamden fingerprint fee of $30.00 which can be paid by cash, money order, cashier's check or business check. Please make check payable to biometric identification services.
