The Hamden Police Records Division is responsible for the storage, maintenance, and release of police reports and arrest records, in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”) and the Municipal Records Retention/Disposition Schedule of the State of Connecticut. This unit also ensures that crime data is compiled, validated and disseminated to the Public Safety Crime Analysis Unit of the State of Connecticut.

Picking Up a Report?
Due to Covid-19 - The Records Division will be temporarily closed to the public. All accident reports may be purchased online at www.buycrash.com. Please note you must enter the full 10 digit report number with no dashes. For example 2000012345 not 20-12345. Please fill out a request form and email it to Records@hamdenpd.com for all other requests.
- Allow 10 business days for reports to be completed
- Call 203-230-4090 to confirm report is ready
- Report fees are .50 cents per page
- Certified copy fee - $1.00 for the first page and .50 each page thereafter
- Please note that all reports are not releasable to the public. The Records Division decides which reports are releasable according to Chapter 14 of the Connecticut General Statutes (C.G. S. 1-200 through 1-259)

Mail in Requests

You must provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope to mail your report back and a copy of your photo ID. Please call ahead (203-230-4090) to find out if your report is ready and how much it will be. Click here to download a Records Request Form.
If Paying With a Personal Check
Must bring/mail in a copy of driver’s license
Must have phone number and driver’s license number written on check
Make check payable to Treasurer, Town of Hamden
To Conduct a Criminal Background Check
Bring your photo ID, name and date of birth of person of interest
Cost: $10.00
Please note that background checks include Hamden arrests only, they do not include any other town. They do not include any motor vehicle arrests. (Speeding, DUI, etc.)
Fingerprinting
Electronic applicant fingerprinting is available at the Hamden Police Department . Biometric Identification Services, an outside electronic fingerprinting vendor will now be conducting all fingerprinting services.
You will need to call Biometric Identification Services at 860-345-2331 to make an appointment.
If you are getting fingerprinted for a pistol permit, then you must bring your COMPLETED pistol permit application with you.

Walk-ins for non pistol permit fingerprinting can call 888-436-8778 to make an appointment.

Connecticut and F.B.I. fingerprint cards WILL BE provided.
